Architecture Thesis Project – What can they say, what can they do?

As part of Charles Correa Gold Medal 2023, join us for a panel discussion on Architecture Thesis Project – What can they say, what can they do?

Do join us for a panel discussion on the present and future of the graduation thesis projects at architecture schools in India. The discussion will be led by Kaiwan Mehta (Dr.) and the panel will consist of Suhasini Ayer, Tanuja Kanvinde, Biju Kuriakose and Bijoy Ramchandran.

 

 

Dr. Kaiwan Mehta, Architecture theorist, Critic and Author

Kaiwan Mehta, is a theorist and critic in the fields of visual culture, architecture, and city studies. Kaiwan has studied Architecture (B. Arch), Literature (MA), Indian Aesthetics (PGDip) and Cultural Studies (PhD). In 2017 he completed his doctoral studies at the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bengaluru, under the aegis of Manipal University. Since March 2012 he has been the Managing Editor of Domus India (Spenta Multimedia). He was appointed as the Dean of Balwant Sheth School of Architecture, Mumbai in 2022. 

 

Suhasini Ayer, Co-founder, Auroville Centre for Scientific Research 

Suhasini Ayer is an Architect, Urban Planner and co-founder of the Auroville Centre for Scientific Research (CSR) Trust. She heads Auroville Design Consultants – a planning and architectural design studio, primarily focused on planning, designing and implementing the applied research development projects within Auroville to field test the innovations and research carried by CSR and other organisations within Auroville.

 

Tanuja Kanvinde, Partner, Kanvinde, Rai & Chowdhury

Tanuja Kanvinde is a partner at the studio practice of Kanvinde, Rai and Chowdhury based in New Delhi. She is a fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects. Tanuja has been actively involved in academics and has been a visiting professor at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi for over 2 decades. She is the President-Elect, Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IID), National Executive Council for term 2019-2021.

 

Biju Kuriakose, Architect, architectureRED

Biju Kuriakose co-founded architectureRED, a Chennai-based architecture firm, along with Kishore Panikkar. Before co-founding architectureRED, Kuriakose was an associate and design director at FXFOWLE Architects, a leading New York-based architectural, planning, and urban design firm. Kuriakose has been a part of prestigious forums like the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance in New York, the Pratt Institute, and Columbia University in New York as a speaker and studio critic. He currently teaches at the School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University. Kuriakose also holds a USGBC LEED certification.

 

Bijoy Ramachandran, Architect, Hundredhands

Architect and Urban Designer Bijoy is the co-founding partner with Sunitha Kondur at Hundredhands, a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Bangalore, established in 2003.

Bijoy was a panellist at the annual all-India undergraduate thesis review, the Kurula Varkey Design Forum, at CEPT, Ahmedabad, in 2006 and 2014, he currently serves as the Post-Graduate Design Chair at the BMS College of Architecture, Bangalore.
